What is time really? When you really think about time it’s just a construct that we were born into and have been conditioned to accept that there are 60 seconds in a minute, 60 minutes in an hour, 24 hours in a day, and 365 days in a year. However, if you go back in time the Julian Calendar was established in 45 BCE by Julius Caesar. The Gregorian calendar later replaced it after Pope Gregory XIII in 1582 reasoned that the newly established calendar adjusted for the leap year and it better aligned with the solar year. However, prior to the Julian Calendar was the Roman calendar. Prior to the Roman calendar, the Mayans, Sumerians, and Chinese had calendars based on the moon cycles. So what gives? I don’t know about you, but it appears to me that time is subjective, and whoever has the most influence at the time has dictated time.
Almost 20 years ago when I was looking at ways to become financially free, the construct was that money just bought you time and choices. When money works for you versus you having to work for money, you are free. We have once again been conditioned to either work at a job to make money or if you are creative and bold enough to be an entrepreneur, you create wealth through other methods that exchange your time for money. With inflation climbing steadily over this past year, regardless of the calendar we use, how our time and money are spent has become more precious. The choices we make with time and money determines the benefits we receive (or not receive).
A similar concept can be applied to our health and bodies. The more time we spend abusing our bodies through eating foods that are not necessarily good for us like trans fats, refined sugars, artificial flavors and colors, alcohol, GMO foods, and foods that don’t make us feel good, the more stress we put on our organs. We may not feel the effects initially, but as time passes our organs slowly get to the point of exhaustion which may lead to a cascade of health ailments.
With Type 2 diabetes, for example, your pancreas finally got exhausted after having to produce insulin to get your cells to pull the excess sugar from your blood to be used as fuel in your tissues. With excess floating insulin in your blood, your cells become insulin resistant over time which creates more complications. Add to this a stressful job, not getting enough restful sleep, not enough water intake, and lack of exercise, the situation for a perfect storm or major health crisis is created.
To avoid potential health crises, getting in tune with your body’s signals and becoming aware of what makes your body feel good or bad can make all the difference in you languishing or thriving in your life. Ultimately the decision is yours and by making choices that help you to add to your well-being instead of affecting you negatively is definitely worth it. By enhancing your health, you are helping to extend your quality of life as time goes on. Don’t wait for something bad to happen. Be proactive to ensure that you are able to spend your time creating amazing memories instead of suffering.
